The BWCA- Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is a 1,090,000 acre and was established in 1964 by the U.S. Forest Service in the Superior National Forest. The BWCAW is renowned as a destination for both canoeing and fishing on its many lakes and is the most visited wilderness in the United States.
The BWCAW contains over a thousand lakes and attracts visitors with its reputation for canoeing, canoe touring, fishing, backpacking, dog sledding, and remote wilderness character. The BWCAW has nearly 2,200 backcountry campsites and requires all vistors to use the permit system.
Quetico Provincial Park is a large wilderness park in western Ontario, Canada. This 1,180,000-acre park shares its southern border with Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The park includes over 2000 unimproved wilderness campsites spread throughout more than 600 lakes. Canoeists require permit reservations and may only enter the Quetico via six Ranger Stations which serve 21 specific entry points. Jasper Company guest enter Canada through Prairie Portage.
